A Special Day for Special Kids, July 31,
at West Hills Day Camp a Great Success
More than 600 parents and children attended the 6th annual Special Day for Special Kids on Saturday July 31, 2010, at West Hills Day Camp. Now in its sixth year, this annual event affords children with special needs -- be it autism spectrum disorder, Asperger syndrome, Tourette’s syndrome, ADHD, OCD or other related neurobiological disorders -- an opportunity to feel comfortable enough to let go and just have fun in a safe environment. And they did!
Lisa Kruger and Family stated: “My husband and I took our twin sons with autism to your event today and we truly had the best time ever! Thank you for all of your hard work in making today such a beautiful and memorable day. We look forward to attending your future events.” One of the Sponsors reported: “We had a good day and the weather was beautiful. We’ll be participating again next year. You do a great job of putting the event together and seeing the children having such a great time is rewarding.”
Activities during the weekend included swimming, paddle boats, fishing, arts and crafts, giant slide, castle bounce, Bungee bounce, miniature golf, games, nursery playground and much more. Challenger Baseball games, pony rides by My Shine, dance demonstrations by Reflections Dance and Dance USA, and Erik’s Reptile Adventure shows were very popular this year. While these Special Kids were enjoying the many activities being offered, an array of information, guest speakers and resources were available to parents.
Proceeds from the event benefit the scholarship fund of the Custom Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help individuals with special needs acquire the services and support they require to live the quality life they deserve.
The Date for 2011 is set for July 30.
